Introducing Cloudlinux

TetraHost is proud to announce CloudLinux is installed on our shared Servers.

CloudLinux is a revolutionary Operating System that allows each cPanel account on our servers to have its own CPU allocations. With a standard Linux installation, a single user can cause issues for everybody else on the server, where as with CloudLinux that account would be limited to their own CPU allocation and would not cause issues for everybody else on the server.

One of the largest benefits of CloudLinux is that it will keep a single account from overwhelming a server and causing slow performance or downtime. Each and every account is limited to a maximum of 1 CPU Core instead of having free and open reign to system resources, and since we run high end servers with upto 16 cores this effectively means that it’s extraordinarily unlikely for the server that your account is on to become slow or unresponsive due to the actions of one, or even a handful of customers.

CloudLinux + cPanel =

Improved stability by limiting the resources any single user can consume

In shared hosting, the most common reason for downtime is a single account slowing down other accounts on the server. Using cPanel & WHM software with CloudLinux utilizes innovative Lightweight Virtual Environment (LVE) technology, improving the density and stability of your shared hosting environment for all tenants.

Advanced server security

With unique CageFS technology, CloudLinux encapsulates each customer, preventing users from seeing each other and viewing sensitive information. It also prevents a large number of attacks, including most privilege escalation and information disclosure attacks.

Increased server efficiency

By monitoring and containing resource spikes, CloudLinux eliminates the need to leave server resources idle, providing server manager with the ability to host twice as many accounts on their cPanel & WHM server.

Multiple PHP versions

Using CloudLinux together with cPanel & WHM software gives our customers with the flexibility to choose the PHP version that they need. This includes versions 4.4, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5, 5.6 and 7.0 as well as more than 50 PHP extensions and the ability to adjust php.ini settings.

Hardened kernel

The shared hosting environment is unlike any other and the CloudLinux kernel takes that into account. It can protect against symlink attacks and trace exploits, while restricting the visibility of ProcFS to only what is necessary — making your cPanel & WHM accounts more secure.

Admin interface within cPanel & WHM software to easily manage account usage

Within cPanel & WHM, CloudLinux gives us and our clients the visibility and accessibility to see and control the exact resource usage of each website.

Enjoy Hosting!

MySQL to MariaDB Upgrade

We are upgrading database system of our all hosting server accounts by migrating from MySQL 5.6 to MariaDB 10.1, a relational database management system (RDBMS) that provides all the functionality of MySQL 5.6, and more. This migration will improve long-term compatibility with various Content Management Systems such as WordPress, Joomla and includes benefits for our customers by offering added features and performance improvements over Oracle’s MySQL. MariaDB is the community-developed fork of MySQL and, due to its high-compatibility, is a drop-in replacement. This means that the migration will be seamless and your database will continue to run as normal – and you may see an increase in performance as well.

Why we are moving to MariaDB?

Better Security and More Features

MariaDB follows industry standards and best-practices by releasing security announcements and upgrades at the same time. This ensures that upgrades and security fixes are in-sync. MariaDB also incorporates more features than MySQL and has quicker release cycles.

Better Performance

MariaDB’s database engines are an improvement over MySQLs which results in better benchmarked performances, which we have confirmed in our own user testing. MariaDB already boasts an impressive user base, including Wikipedia, Google and WordPress.com. MariaDB is also included as the default RDBMS for most major Linux Distributions, including Red Hat 7 and Debian 8.8

MariaDB is a True open-source Project

MariaDB was originally forked from MySQL after the latter was acquired by Oracle, and is committed to remaining open source. Such global collaboration ensures that security and development is open and vibrant.

If any of our client face any issue with their website database connection, please change database user password and update website configuration file which should resolve the issue. If you still have any issue feel free to open a support ticket immediately.

Important: Password Security Policies

The password is the single most common security measure for digital systems, both online and off-line. The problem is that it is becoming increasingly less secure as hackers gain more and more powerful tools to simply crack them. A great deal of attention has gone towards the creation of secure passwords, what constitutes them, and whether or not it is feasible to retain a bunch of random alphanumerical strings inside your head all the time.

How are passwords cracked?

Most accounts that have their passwords compromised are not done so by another human being directly. Instead a computer will be tasked with guessing your password, so planning should go in to understanding and then deterring a computer from cracking your password. A hacker has a variety of malicious tactics available to them when trying to crack your password. These would be the two most common attacks you see on the Internet today:

  • Brute Force Attack: The attacker runs a script that tries again and again to randomly crack your password by sheer brute force. A long password with multiple character sets is the best protection. The higher your password entropy the less likely your password will be compromised by a brute force attack.
  • Dictionary Attack: The attacker utilizes dictionaries of known words or passwords and a script to try them in thousands of combinations until one matches up with the correct password. Don’t use common words, or keystrokes such as anyone’s name or phone number. Use a combination of multiple character sets to reduce the likelyhood of multiple entries pulled for a dictionary matching up successfully.

In recent time, We have been working on having more security on our cPanel servers and have applied few new security policies.

Password Strength – An password of any kind must set to 80% strong at least. System will not accept your password until it matches the security policy. To setup an strong password, you can use Lowercase/Uppercase letter, signs/symbols and number.

Password Age – Passwords must be changed every 90 days. Our system will automatically ask user to change their password every 90 days.

These two measures should allow you to secure your cPanel and related services. In the meantime, if you have any questions about account security, please contact us at TetraHost Support.

Announcement: Free Let’s Encrypt SSL With Hosting

We’re delighted to announce that Let’s Encrypt certificates are now available at TetraHost.

Let’s Encrypt is a free, automated and open certificate authority (CA) that offers free SSL certificates for the public’s benefit. Just like a paid for SSL certificate, a Let’s Encrypt certificate provides HTTPS protection for your website. You can find it by login into your cPanel and navigating to the Security section or simply by typing Let’s Encrypt in the search field.

What is Let’s Encrypt?

Let’s Encrypt is a free, automated and open certificate authority which provides domain-validated security certificates. Run by Internet Security Research Group (ISRG) Let’s Encrypts primary goal is to create a more secure and privacy-respecting web by making https more accessible and user friendly.

Here’s how Let’s Encrypt Certificates work:

  • – It’s free(Absolutely)
  • – Easy installation(Very)
  • – Enables https
  • – Domain validated
  • – Trusted by major browsers
  • – Renews automatically every 90 days

What is https?

Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS), unlike its http counterpart is a communications protocol which provides a secure connection between a site and a visitor’s web browser, meaning any data shared is encrypted and safe from prying eyes.

Why HTTPS is important?

For security and Google.

First and foremost, https makes your website secure for your users. If your website does not use https, data sent between it and your users can potentially be intercepted, monitored or even altered by a 3rd party as it traverses the internet.

Security is a top priority for Google and back in August 2016 they announced https would to be used as a ranking single to encourage webmaster to use encryption. Continuing their mission for a safer web, from this month Google will highlight all sites which collect passwords and credit card data without https encryption as ‘Non-secure’ to visitors. You can learn more about this update here.

How to install Let’s Encrypt SSL?

With Let’s Encrypt you will be able to receive a certificate for your website without filling out any information details and by clicking a single button. Just choose the domain/subdomain you wish to cover with a certificate to and click on the Issue button next to it.

For more information about the Let’s Encrypt project and how it works, visit their official website.

If you are having any issue with SSL install or want us to install the certificates for you, please submit a ticket at support [at] tetrahostbd.com

On this occasion, we would like to inform you that, we might have to increase prices for other domain TLDs as well in future as .COM and .NET prices were already increased by the registry for few months now. We are still able to sell those domains in current price thus the price wasn’t increased even though registry price was increased.

Paid Domain Privacy Protection Service

According to ICANN regulation, whenever a domain is registered, accurate contact information must be submitted along with that registration. This information is then made publicly available through a WHOIS search. All domain owners are required to maintain accurate and valid personal or business contact information in their WHOIS data; however, you can keep this information private by enabling WHOIS Privacy Protection or Domain ID Protection.

The Privacy Protection service was Free with any domain registration service from TetraHost but now customer will have to pay for the Domain Privacy Protection service as our main domain service provider has applied this.

Domain Privacy Protection service will cost 5$ or 400Tk each domain and needed to be paid while registering the domain name. By paying for domain privacy protection, you will be able to have privacy protection for 1 year. Currently registered domain with privacy protection will not be affected and they will not have to pay. On their next renewal, they will have to pay the Domain Privacy Protection fee with renewal if they want to renew privacy protection service.

Recent ICANN changes – WHOIS Verification Requirements

Just read that starting January 1, 2014, domain registrars will be required to send out emails to verify registration of a domain and if you don’t respond to the verification email, you could end up having your website becoming non-functional as the domain name server will be changed by the registrar if there is a lack of compliance.

Starting in January, when any customer (new or existing) registers or transfers in a domain, they will be sent an email with a verification link. Customers must click this link within 15 days or their domains will be set to parking. To remove the domain from parking, the customer must click the verification link in the email. Once they have completed the verification, they will not need to verify again unless they change their contact record, in which case another verification email will be sent with the same requirements.

Verifying the Registrant’s contact information

As a part of the Whois Data Accuracy specification, ICANN expects the Registrar to verify the contact information for the Registrant contact of each gTLD domain name, within 15 days of

* a domain name being registered with unverified contact details,

* a domain name being transferred in, or

* the contact information of the Registrant contact information being modified.

Some important aspects of this process:

1. The verification email will be sent out as soon as the email address is associated with a domain name. Additional reminders will be sent on the 7th and 14th day, if the verification isn’t done until then.

2. The verification email will be sent out from the Reseller’s email address. It shall be a compulsory system mail, which shall not be customized or turned off.

3. In the 15 day verification notice period, the domain name will continue to resolve. The domain holder will not be obstructed from using their domain name in any way, unless they don’t complete the verification process in the allowed time.

4. Once an email address has been verified, then all subsequent registrations, transfers or contact updates that use this email address will not require any verification.

5. Once a year, we send out a Whois Data Reminder email to the Registrant of the domain name, in accordance with ICANN guidelines. We shall monitor the delivery status of these emails – if the mail sent to a registrant email address of a domain name were to bounce back, our compliance team will review the case and take appropriate action against the domain name.

Internet Corporation of Assigned Names & Numbers (ICANN) published an updated Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA). These changes are scheduled to go into effect January 1st 2014 and will affect all domain owners both with TetraHost or another domain registrar. To review a quick technical summary of the policy change check ICANN RAA 2013 Changes Article.

Note: TetraHost has no control in this process. Should a domain verification fail, only ICANN has the control to override your DNS records and serve the domain verification pending page.

If you have anymore query or confusion regarding the whole process, please contact us immediately by email, phone or livechat.
