Introducing Cloudlinux

TetraHost is proud to announce CloudLinux is installed on our shared Servers.

CloudLinux is a revolutionary Operating System that allows each cPanel account on our servers to have its own CPU allocations. With a standard Linux installation, a single user can cause issues for everybody else on the server, where as with CloudLinux that account would be limited to their own CPU allocation and would not cause issues for everybody else on the server.

One of the largest benefits of CloudLinux is that it will keep a single account from overwhelming a server and causing slow performance or downtime. Each and every account is limited to a maximum of 1 CPU Core instead of having free and open reign to system resources, and since we run high end servers with upto 16 cores this effectively means that it’s extraordinarily unlikely for the server that your account is on to become slow or unresponsive due to the actions of one, or even a handful of customers.

CloudLinux + cPanel =

Improved stability by limiting the resources any single user can consume

In shared hosting, the most common reason for downtime is a single account slowing down other accounts on the server. Using cPanel & WHM software with CloudLinux utilizes innovative Lightweight Virtual Environment (LVE) technology, improving the density and stability of your shared hosting environment for all tenants.

Advanced server security

With unique CageFS technology, CloudLinux encapsulates each customer, preventing users from seeing each other and viewing sensitive information. It also prevents a large number of attacks, including most privilege escalation and information disclosure attacks.

Increased server efficiency

By monitoring and containing resource spikes, CloudLinux eliminates the need to leave server resources idle, providing server manager with the ability to host twice as many accounts on their cPanel & WHM server.

Multiple PHP versions

Using CloudLinux together with cPanel & WHM software gives our customers with the flexibility to choose the PHP version that they need. This includes versions 4.4, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5, 5.6 and 7.0 as well as more than 50 PHP extensions and the ability to adjust php.ini settings.

Hardened kernel

The shared hosting environment is unlike any other and the CloudLinux kernel takes that into account. It can protect against symlink attacks and trace exploits, while restricting the visibility of ProcFS to only what is necessary — making your cPanel & WHM accounts more secure.

Admin interface within cPanel & WHM software to easily manage account usage

Within cPanel & WHM, CloudLinux gives us and our clients the visibility and accessibility to see and control the exact resource usage of each website.

Enjoy Hosting!

Price increase for .COM & .NET domains!

Few days ago, we were notified by our mother domain registrar that, VeriSign, Inc. will be increasing the cost to register .com and .net TLD’s effective from January 15, 2012. Here is part of the announcement:

DULLES, VA — (MARKET WIRE) — 07/14/11 — VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRSN), the trusted provider of Internet infrastructure services for the networked world, today announced, effective Jan. 15, 2012, an increase in registry domain name fees for .com and .net, per its agreements with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

This will be the third price increase, by Verisign, in the last few years. Adding to this, recently the USD Dollar Rate has increased significantly as well. A few month ago it was 70tk per USD but currently it is something around 80tk per USD.

Up until now, we have absorbed the cost of these price increases, however, we can no longer continue to absorb these price increases. We were trying to manage it within ourselves but with both Verisign Price increase and USD Dollar Rate increase we are forced to increase our Domain Registration cost for .COM and .NET

We would also like to mention that we are not going to increase the price heavily at all. Our price will remain same on USD rate which is 10$ but in BDT the price would be 800tk(previously it was 700tk). Effective from January 14, 2012, all existing domain registrations maintained by TetraHostbd.com will increase to the new rate of BDT 800tk/year per domain for .COM and .NET. The new price will be applicable for both, single and multiple(Domain Reseller) domain registration.

Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions about this notice, please do not hesitate to reply this blog post.

CSF Firewall, version updated!(csf v5.11)

CSF firewall commonly known as Configserver Security and Firewall has become one of the popular firewall not just because of its easy of use it also provides a cpanel interface and can be easily installed and tuned by any users.

Yesterday, we upgraded CSF to latest version which is 5.11 to offer more protection to our client.

Here are some major changes in the new version:

Added a new 7th argument to BLOCK_REPORT that includes the log lines that triggered the block (excludes LF_NETBLOCK and LF_PERMBLOCK)

Added new CLI option csf –tempallow (csf -ta) which works in exactly the same way as csf –tempdeny (csf -td) except it provides a method of temporary IP allows for a given duration. csf -t, csf -tf and csf -tr now apply to both deny and allow entries

Allow the use of a duration suffix in csf -ta and csf -td for m, h and d (minutes, hours and days). Only one suffix allowed and only integers

Updated UI entry for adding and removing temporary allows and blocks

Display temporary block TTL in days hours minutes and seconds

Added new CLI option csf –watch [ip] (csf -w [ip]) and configuration option WATCH_MODE. This new option logs SYN packets from a specified source as they traverse the iptables chains. This can be extremely useful in tracking where that IP is being DROPed or ACCEPTed by iptables. See readme.txt for more information

Modified csf and lfd init scripts to be LSB-compliant

Modified BOGON/DSHIELD/SPAMHAUS block list retrieval to only download the list if it has not already been retrieved within the configured interval. This is to help prevent blacklisting by the list provider for repeated downloads after frequent lfd restarts

Fixed problem with csf -q and csf -sf not restarting the firewall if there was a previous startup error.
